Black Sticks Men fall to India in final series match

The Vantage Black Sticks men have been well beaten 4-0 by India in today's final match of the 3-game series in Bangalore

It was normal transmission for India as they took on the Black Sticks with yet another Rupinder Singh penalty corner conversion in the early stages of the match (8') that gave the host nation the initial lead and ascendancy in the match.

Surender Kumar made it 2-0 India with a field goal at 15 minutes right at the end of the first quarter, which remained the same into half time.

While the scoreboard somewhat flattered India, they were too good across the turf for the Black Sticks today. The hosts scored two more goals in the fourth quarter to Mandeep Singh on 44 minutes and a final goal to Akashdeep Singh right at the death, after the Kiwis had pulled their goalkeeper, to make it four.

"4-0 wasn’t the result that we wanted but today India were more clinical than us and although we had opportunities to score we couldn’t make the most of them.

Smith reflected on a challenging month away for the Black Sticks Men "This was a long and demanding tour where we were able to be challenged by various off field and on field problems. We handled this with mixed results and were inconsistent with our performance in game.

"India has been very demanding with them in full flight for the Asia Olympic Qualifying tournament starting soon and coming off an excellent performance at Breda.

‘We now focus on the World Cup and getting ourselves ready for what will be a fantastic tournament".

Scorry, couple of pieces of info. They scored two in the last quarter and 1 of those while we had the keeper off. The score was flattering.

The Vantage Black Sticks Men return home with only a single win from seven away matches on this tour of Japan and India, but significant learning for this side, as they prepare for the Bhubaneswar hosted Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup, starting 29 November 2018, with New Zealand's first game against France
